TSC convenes national stakeholders forum to strengthen TPD implementation

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) today convened a high-level Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), bringing together key players in the education sector to review and strengthen the implementation of the TPD programme.

The forum attracted a broad range of education stakeholders, including representatives from the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), Kenya Institute of Special Education, British Council, KEPSHA, KESSHA, SSHAR, KUPPET, KNUT, KUSNET, CEMASTEA and KICD, among others.

Participants deliberated on the implementation, relevance and continuous improvement of the TPD programme, with a focus on enhancing teacher capacity, improving pedagogical skills and raising learning outcomes across the country.

Addressing the forum, TSC Acting Secretary Evaleen Mitei underscored the critical role of Continuous Professional Development in equipping teachers with up-to-date knowledge, modern teaching skills and technological competencies necessary to respond effectively to the evolving needs of learners.

She noted that as the education landscape continues to transform, teachers must be supported through structured and sustained professional development programmes to ensure they remain effective in delivering quality education.

Mitei reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with stakeholders to ensure the TPD framework remains responsive, practical and aligned with national education priorities.

The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights, best practices and recommendations aimed at refining the programme and addressing emerging challenges.

Discussions also centred on fostering collaboration, promoting innovation in teaching methodologies and ensuring inclusive professional development opportunities for teachers at all levels.

The forum marks a significant step in reinforcing a coordinated and sustainable approach to teacher professional growth, as TSC continues to prioritise quality teaching as a cornerstone for improved learner achievement nationwide.
