The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has appointed Toili Khisa as the Acting Principal of Bungoma High School, following the resignation of Chief Principal Enock Andanje. Reliable sources indicate that Mr. Andanje is preparing to contest in the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election.
Khisa, a respected educator and celebrated figure in the national performing arts scene, has served at Bungoma High School for over 17 years. He was promoted to Deputy Principal in charge of Administration in 2024, and now takes over leadership in an acting capacity.
Well-known for his exceptional contributions to the Kenya National Drama and Music Festivals, Khisa has directed over 1,879 performances and is widely regarded as a “stage guru.” His artistic talents extend beyond the classroom, having starred in the local television series #Sarakasi on TV47 Kenya.
In a statement from the Bungoma County TSC office, the appointment was described as a routine administrative move aimed at ensuring continuity in school leadership. The commission has not yet indicated when or whether a substantive principal will be appointed.

Khisa’s elevation has been welcomed by staff, students, and education stakeholders who praised his commitment to academic excellence and co-curricular development.
“He is a natural leader who understands the needs of learners both inside and outside the classroom. His track record speaks for itself,” said a member of the school’s Board of Management.
In his brief remarks, Mr. Khisa pledged to uphold the school’s legacy, reinforce discipline, and maintain high academic standards while continuing to promote talent development through the arts.
In a fitting twist, Khisa’s long-standing passion for drama has now led him to an “acting” role of a different kind, leading one of the country’s most prominent boys’ schools through a new chapter.
