A wave of senior retirements has swept across the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), triggering a leadership vacuum at its Nairobi headquarters just a day after the exit of long-serving CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia.
Several senior directors have exited the Commission on retirement grounds at a time when suitable replacements have yet to be identified, raising concerns over continuity and institutional stability.
Among those set to exit is Ibrahim Rugut, who has been serving as Deputy Director of Administrative Services. Rugut had also been a county director for several years in several counties.
Ibrahim Mumin, who is also the director in charge of administrative services was also expected to leave having attained his retirement age but sources at the commission say has sought an extension of his term on the grounds of disability and the matter is currently consideration by the Commission.
David Ngetich, the Deputy Director in charge of Security Services also retired yesterday after serving the TSC for quite some time. At the same time, Joseph Mugelle, the TSC Regional Director for the Western, recently vacated his position , leaving another vacuum in the field.
Further straining the TSC is the retirement of Kenneth Marangu, who has served as Acting Director for Human Resources and previously held the post of Deputy Director of Administration.

Marangu exited yesterday, adding to the rising tally of senior leadership exits.
In addition, Jane Kimathi, the Personal Assistant to former CEO Dr Macharia, also retired yesterday, further depleting the Commission’s experienced inner circle.
There is growing concern within TSC that retirements are occurring at a time when suitable replacements have not been identified.
The sudden turnover comes shortly after Dr Macharia retired, ending her decade-long tenure as TSC CEO. Evaleen Mitei was subsequently identified as her replacement in an acting capacity.
The public and education stakeholders are now watching closely to see how swiftly the Commission moves to fill the key leadership gaps and restore stability at the helm.
