The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has entered a transition phase following the departure of long-serving CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, who officially began her terminal leave on June 1, 2025, pending her retirement at the end of the month. In her absence, Evaleen Mitei has been appointed by the Commission to serve in an acting capacity as Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to all TSC Secretariat staff and copied to Commission Chairperson Dr. Jamleck Muturi, Dr. Macharia expressed gratitude for the support she received during her tenure, describing it as a period of collective achievement and national service.
“I am proceeding on Terminal Leave with effect from today, 1st June, 2025, pending my retirement from the Teachers Service Commission on 30th June, 2025, after serving the Commission in various capacities,” she wrote.
Mitei joined the TSC in 1994 as a teacher and transitioned to the Secretariat in 1999. Since then, she has steadily risen through the ranks to her current position as Director of Teacher Discipline Management.
Dr Macharia has led TSC during a transformative period for the education sector, overseeing reforms in teacher recruitment, professional development, promotions, and digitalisation of TSC services.

“It has been an incredible privilege and honour to lead such a team of talented professionals in managing the affairs of our great Country on matters related to the teaching service,” she noted.
TSC is managing several pending reforms and structural reviews aimed at enhancing service delivery. She credited her team for helping steer the organisation through complex challenges.
“It is as a result of your devotion to duty that, collectively, we have been able to navigate several challenges and achieve significant milestones in transforming the teaching service and enhancing service delivery to our stakeholders.”

“I am extremely proud of you, not just as employees of the Commission, but also as an outstanding team. I urge you to keep working hard, continue delivering services that reflect the best in you and protect the core values of our institution.”
