The Teachers Service Commission(TSC) has given out a notice for the recruitment of 6,000 intern teachers across the country.

The move is in line with the commission’s commitment to reduce understaffing in schools.

In the 2022/2023 financial year, the government allocated TSC Shs 1.2 billion to recruit 6,000 intern teachers as a stop gap measure to ease teachers’ shortage in schools which currently stands at 114,581 teachers.

Speaking during the release of KCSE 2021 at KNEC offices, TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia   said the commission will put more emphasis in staffing sub county secondary schools which admit the bulk of learners in secondary schools.

She disclosed that since 2019, the commission had recruited 28,000 intern teachers.
