Trans Nzoia allocates Ksh140M to boost education and vocational training

  • Trans Nzoia County Government has allocated Ksh140 million to the Education and Vocational Training sector in its 2026/2027 financial year budget.
  • According to the draft budget presented during public participation forums, Ksh75 million has been earmarked for education programmes, while Ksh65 million will support Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).

The Trans Nzoia County Government has allocated Ksh140 million to the Education and Vocational Training sector in its 2026/2027 financial year budget, with a focus on improving early childhood education infrastructure and strengthening vocational training institutions.

According to the draft budget presented during public participation forums, Ksh75 million has been earmarked for education programmes, while Ksh65 million will support Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).

To enhance learning at the foundational level, Ksh21 million has been set aside for the provision of specialized learning materials in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres across the county.

Several ECDE centres will also benefit from infrastructure development. In Kiminini Sub-County, Bikeke ECDE has been allocated Ksh500,000 for the construction of a pit latrine.

Similar allocations have been made to Limuli, Toro and Machungwa ECDE centres. Endebess Sub-County will receive Ksh1.5 million for the construction of pit latrines in its ECDE institutions.

The draft budget further proposes Ksh6 million for the construction of ECDE centres at Namanjalala and Ngonyek in Cherangany Sub-County, while Chepchoina ECDE in Endebess Sub-County has been allocated Ksh4 million for a new ECDE centre.

In Saboti Sub-County, Ksh3 million has been earmarked for the supply of furniture to Machewa ECDE and Ksh7 million for the construction of an ECDE centre.

Kwanza Sub-County is set to receive the largest allocation for ECDE infrastructure, with KSh14 million designated for the construction of centres at Milimani, Marinda, Kambindege, Kapomboi, Kapsitwet, Lunyu and Goseta.

To strengthen vocational training, the county has allocated KSh50 million for VTC capitation to support scholarships and other educational programmes.

An additional Ksh13 million has been set aside for the construction and rehabilitation of VTC infrastructure, including offices, training facilities and other non-residential buildings.

The budget also allocates Ksh2 million for the provision of start-up kits and related infrastructure works in Kiminini Sub-County, aimed at enhancing skills development and supporting youth empowerment through vocational training.

The proposed allocations are expected to improve access to quality education and strengthen technical skills training across the county if approved in the final budget.
