Police and Kenya Power are investigating the tragic death of a 19-year-old university first-year student in Nyamira County, who was fatally electrocuted while carrying out an electrical connection at his family home.
The incident took place on June 15, 2026, in Riobong’o Village, Gatuta Sublocation, Manga Subcounty, police said.
According to police, officers who responded to the scene confirmed the death of Frankline Tochi Matara, a first-year student at Moi University.
The deceased’s father informed investigators that his son was carrying out an electricity connection inside their home when he was fatally electrocuted.

His body was later transferred to the Christa Marian Hospital mortuary in Kisii County, where it is being held pending a post-mortem examination.
Officials from Kenya Power’s Nyamira office have been informed of the incident as investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal electrocution.
The tragedy adds to growing concerns over the dangers associated with handling electrical installations without adequate safety measures or professional supervision.
