Detectives have launched investigations into the death of a Grade Five pupil whose body was discovered in a pit latrine after being reported missing in Shinyalu, Kakamega County.
According to the police, the girl was allegedly assaulted and killed before her body dumped in the pit latrine in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 28, although police said the motive behind the killing had not yet been established.

According to reports, the girl had been reported missing on Saturday June 27, prompting a search that ended with the discovery of her body in a latrine.
She was a learner at Lukaya Primary School. Her body, which had visible injuries, was removed and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.
No arrests have been made by Tuesday, June 30, as investigations continue.
