Excitement filled Embu top Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres after nine schools from the county made it to the 94th National Music Festivals set to run from 16th to 17th September at Maseno University, Kisumu.
Mwea and Micegethiu ECDE schools which are the national defending champions in the singing and choral verse categories qualified for the Festivals after emerging the best in the Eastern Regional Music festivals held at Kitui Technical Institute.
Jeremiah Ireri, County Director of ECDE in Embu County said that he was optimistic that the schools would defend their titles because of the intense preparations that the trainers put in place and the sufficient funding from the Embu County Government.
The Director added that the schools performed at Nakuru State House in 2019 and expressed confidence of them doing the same this year.
He lauded the County Government for being on the forefront of supporting and ensuring that ECDE schools participate in extra curricular activities.
Mr Ireri revealed that the County’s Governor Cecily Mbarire was in the process of scaling up the funding towards ECDE in order to boost the sector adding that the scale-up would assist in purchasing additional CBC-compliant learning materials.
Other ECDE schools that made the cut for the National Festivals from the county are Iveche ECDE, Kirima ECDE, Mashamba ECDE and Mbuinjeru ECDE.
