A sombre mood has descended on Mwonochi village in Bonchari Constituency after a 22‑year‑old student at Kisii National Polytechnic was discovered dead in his house in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.

According to residents, the young man had earlier quarrelled with his mother after requesting Ksh 4,000 to replace the screen of his broken phone. Following the disagreement, he retreated to his room and remained there until Thursday afternoon, when his body was found hanging from the roof with a sisal rope around his neck.

Neighbours who spotted the tragedy alerted police, who moved the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination. Officers also documented evidence from the scene as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the death.
