St. Patrick’s High School, Iten in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, continues to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its alumni, whose performances on the international stage reaffirm the institution’s legacy as a cradle of champions.
Among the school’s distinguished former students is Cornelius Kemboi, a 2020 leaver. In 2025, Kemboi claimed victory in the 5,000m at the Kenyan World Championship trials, clocking 13:38.46 to secure his place on the national team. He later competed at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, finishing eighth in the 3,000m final. His steady rise has also seen him win bronze in the 5,000m at the 2023 African Games in Accra (held in early 2024) and dominate the Discovery Kenya Cross Country race in Eldoret in both 2024 and 2025.
Teenage sensation Edmond Serem, a 2023 leaver, has equally etched his name in history. At just 17, he became the youngest athlete ever to win an individual medal in the 3,000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships, earning bronze in Tokyo in 2025. His meteoric rise began with gold at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, where he clocked 8:15.28. In December 2025, he was honoured as the World Athletics Male Rising Star of the Year, cementing his status as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.
Flying the school’s flag abroad is Owan Logorodi, a 2025 leaver, now competing for the Arkansas Razorbacks at the University of Arkansas. Logorodi won silver in the 1,500m at the 2025 African U20 Championships in Abeokuta, Nigeria, setting a personal best of 3:39.07. Since transitioning to the collegiate circuit, he has helped Arkansas set a school record in the distance medley relay (9:17.30), finishing second at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships. His growing list of personal bests highlights his steady development on the global stage.
Speaking on the achievements, Chief Principal Peter Rotich praised the athletes for upholding the school’s proud tradition.

“We are immensely proud of our former students who continue to raise the St. Patrick’s flag high across the world. Their discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence were nurtured here, and they are now demonstrating that foundation on the global stage. These achievements inspire our current students to dream big and work hard,” said Rotich.
