A Form Three student at Chepkutung Secondary School has died in a road accident at Kapsuser Market along the Kericho-Sotik highway.
Elias Kiprotich was reportedly travelling home on a boda boda with a friend when their motorcycle was hit by a lorry at Kapsuser.
The impact was fatal, with Elias dying at the scene.
His death has left his family, friends and the Chepkutung Secondary School community in mourning.
“Elias was a humble, hardworking and disciplined student. He had a bright future ahead of him, and his sudden death is a great loss to the school and his family,” a teacher said.
Another student described him as a friendly and dedicated learner who maintained good relations with his classmates.
“We are still struggling to come to terms with what has happened. He was a good friend and a promising student,” the student said.
Police investigate accident
His body was moved to the mortuary as police launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Residents of Kapsuser Market have meanwhile appealed to motorists to exercise extra caution, particularly along the busy Kericho-Sotik highway.
“Motorists need to slow down and be more careful, especially around the market. Most accidents are caused by human error and can be avoided if road users exercise caution,” a resident said.
Residents also urged drivers to observe speed limits and remain vigilant when approaching busy trading centres to prevent further loss of lives.
School mourns Form Three learner
The death of Elias has cast a pall of grief over Chepkutung Secondary School, with the school community joining his family, relatives and friends in mourning the promising young learner.
Chepkutung Secondary School is a public mixed day school located in Kapsuser, Belgut Constituency, Kericho County.
