Students from St. Augustine Nyamonye Girls Secondary School toured the Siaya Governor’s Boardroom for a hands-on lesson in county governance, public service and leadership.
The County Government of Siaya welcomed the students for an educational training session held under the theme “Understanding County Government, Public Service and Leadership.” Chief Officer for Governance and Administration Walter Okelo led the reception, alongside Director for Public Participation John Omiti, Director Chrisphine Omondi and Peter Mbeka.
The interactive engagement covered a broad sweep of county affairs. Topics included the role of protocol, public participation and citizen engagement, governance and administration, county planning and development, as well as ICT and digital transformation.

Beyond the theory, students gained practical insight into how the county government is structured. They also learned how each department works together to deliver services to residents across Siaya.
For many of the young minds present, the visit offered a rare bridge between classroom learning and real-life government operations. Rather than reading about devolution in textbooks, they witnessed it in action within the very boardroom where county decisions take shape.
The session closed with remarks from the school’s Head Girl, Lucy, who thanked the county leadership on behalf of her peers. She commended the warm reception extended to the students and said she left the boardroom deeply inspired by the experience.

Officials framed the visit as part of broader efforts to bring young people closer to public institutions. Ultimately, such exposure is intended to nurture informed, engaged citizens who understand how their county government functions from the ground up.
