School heads asked to be lenient with parents with fee balances

Matungulu Member of Parliament (MP) Stephen Mule has urged heads of public schools to be lenient on parents with fee balances.

Speaking in Nguluni, Mule told Education News that Principals shouldn’t send students home but instead reach an agreement with the parents on how the fee will be paid.

He noted that many parents were depending on bursaries from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and its pronouncement as unconstitutional had dealt them a big blow.

The MP promised to continue fighting for the restoration of the fund and if possible more money to be allocated to it.

“Times are hard and parents are struggling, Principals, please go easy on them we understand that it’s hard for you too,” he said.

He however requested parents to try and pay whatever they could to keep the schools running.

“We will fight for the NG-CDF kitty until it’s back but as we do our best, parents also need to try and pay something to the schools to keep them running,” he said.

Earlier this month, Mule wrote to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on plans for a CDF bill after the kitty was declared unconstitutional.
