Queen of Angels school bus involved in accident near Kaplong, one student seriously injured

A school bus belonging to Queen of Angels Junior School and Primary School in Kaplong, Bomet County, was involved in a road accident on Sunday evening at Mumberes, near Kaplong, while returning from an educational tour in Nairobi.

The accident occurred along the busy Bomet–Kaplong Road, about five kilometres from the school, just as the learners were nearing the end of their journey.

According to preliminary reports, the driver allegedly lost control after the bus was distracted by a tractor on the road, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Sources said all the learners and teachers aboard the bus were safely evacuated.

The injured were rushed to Kaplong Mission Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Medical sources indicated that most of those injured sustained minor injuries, while one student suffered serious injuries and is receiving specialised medical attention.

Parents rush to accident scene

Parents and residents rushed to the scene following news of the accident as emergency responders and members of the public assisted in rescuing those trapped in the bus.

The incident caused temporary traffic disruption along the busy road before the wreckage was cleared.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to establish the exact cause.

The accident has sparked concern among parents and residents, even as many expressed gratitude that the incident did not result in any fatalities.

School officials are yet to issue an official statement on the condition of the injured student and the next steps following the accident.
