  • Basic Education PS John Ololtuaa has urged newly recruited QASOs to uphold education standards and ensure schools comply with policies that protect the safety and welfare of learners and staff.

  • He said the 300 officers will play a key role in monitoring education reforms, strengthening accountability, and promoting quality learning as they are deployed across the country.

Principal Secretary for Basic Education, John Ololtuaa, has challenged newly recruited Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASOs) to ensure that educational institutions across the country comply with established policies and regulations, particularly those aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of learners and staff.

Speaking on Tuesday, June 16 during the orientation of newly recruited QASOs at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Ololtuaa emphasized the critical role the officers will play in ensuring schools operate effectively and deliver quality education in line with national policies and legal frameworks.

The PS noted that recent school fire tragedies have highlighted the urgent need for safe learning environments and vigilant oversight within educational institutions.

“Your appointment comes at a critical time in Kenya’s education transformation, where your leadership will be vital in advancing the Government’s commitment to delivering quality, equitable, inclusive and relevant education for all learners,” Ololtuaa said.

He urged the officers to demonstrate exemplary leadership by upholding integrity, exercising sound judgment and maintaining a steadfast commitment to promoting the interests and welfare of learners.

“As quality assurance officers, you are expected to inspire confidence and drive positive change within your areas of responsibility,” he added.

Ololtuaa further noted that as the country continues to implement key education reforms, including the Competency-Based Education Programme, QASOs will play a crucial role in ensuring accountability, effective monitoring and continuous improvement in the sector.

He said their work will be instrumental in maximizing the impact of the Government’s investments in education and ensuring that reforms achieve their intended outcomes.

A total of 300 QASOs were recruited this year and, following the orientation programme, will be deployed to their respective duty stations across the country.
