Police in Bomet County have launched investigations into the deaths of a teacher and a prison officer in what detectives suspect may be linked to a love triangle, an incident that has unsettled residents of Sotik and neighbouring Emurua Dikirr.
Authorities confirmed that the body of Abigael Chepkemoi, a prison officer attached to Sotik Prison, was discovered and taken to Kaplong Mission Hospital Mortuary pending a post‑mortem examination. Shortly afterwards, the body of Geoffrey Waley, a teacher at Murkan Comprehensive School in Emurua Dikirr, was also found, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the two deaths.
Sotik Sub‑County Police Commander Sammy Choge said preliminary findings suggested the case could be connected to a love triangle, though he stressed that investigations remain ongoing and no conclusions have been reached. Detectives are now piecing together evidence to establish the sequence of events and the exact cause of the deaths.

Investigators are scrutinising messages allegedly sent from Waley’s phone in the early hours of Saturday. One post reportedly appeared in a teachers’ WhatsApp group in Emurua Dikirr, reading: “Pole tu sana… done and dusted.” Police are working to verify the authenticity of the messages as part of their probe.
Reports that explicit images were briefly shared in the same WhatsApp group before being deleted by the administrator are also under investigation. Detectives believe the digital trail could provide crucial leads in understanding what transpired.
Police emphasised that the matter was being handled with urgency and urged the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to gather evidence without interference.
