Police in Kisii have beefed up the war on illicit brew and drugs in schools as they gear to reopen for the first term.

Consequently, County Commissioner Tom Anjere has asked parents and guardians to prepare the children properly to resume their studies, while also stressing the government’s commitment to ensuring 100% transition to secondary schools.

Speaking to the Press at his office after a security meeting, the Commissioner warned drug peddlers and brewers against plying their trade on school children, saying that henceforth they risk arrest and prosecution.

Commissioner Anjere directed Chiefs and their Assistants to fight the drug menace in their respective jurisdictions to protect the lives of learners.

He also asked them to ensure that all children report to school.

The Commissioner lauded parents for taking care for their children during the holidays and assured them that they will protect them as they return to school.

He was flanked by Kisii Central Sub-County Police Commander Isaac Kimwele and Ward Representatives Ibrahim Ongubo (Bobaracho), Ismael Bosire (Bogiakumu), Bouse Maitura (Masimba), Amos Mokaya (Nyatieko) and Thomas Obare (Bassi Boitan’gare).

Meanwhile, Educationist David Ogega has appealed to school heads not to chase children home for lunch money saying that it disrupts their studies and performance in examinations.

“The government pays a lot of money for capitation and learners also get bursary funds. The money is enough for schools to provide them with food and other materials,” he said.
