Parents from various parts of Kisii county have decried the insecurity in the region and expressed concern over the safety of their children.
Speaking to Education News in Kisii town, Kisii county Parents’ Association Chairman Mr. Paul Mainga appealed to security organs within the county to step up and stop the rising cases of assault and defilement on minors.
‘If the cases of assaults continue, most pupils will fear going to school and stay at home with us,” said Mainga.
The parents’ concerns came after a 8-year old girl was defiled, murdered and her body dumped in a maize farm.
Nyamare location Chief said the schoolgirl was a pupil at Bogeka primary school.
The deceased’s aunt, Mrs Alice Nyaboke said that on that fateful day, her niece left home in the morning for school but never returned home in the evening.
‘We thought that she had gone to visit her grandmother after school.We later found out that she had been killed,” Mrs Nyaboke said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for postmortem.
The hospital’s CEO, Dr. Enock Ondari, said the body of the deceased had serious injuries on the private parts.
“It seems that the girl was gang raped by known people who gagged her before murdering her to conceal the evidence,” said Dr. Ondari.
In another incident, a standard five boy was found dead and his body dumped in a sugar cane plantation near Suguta market in South Mugirango constituency.
Etago sub county Police Commander Mr.Laban Omor said that the boy was studying at Engeti DEB Primary school before he died. The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy pending further investigation.
In yet another occurrence, the body of an unknown boy of about 15 years old, was found dumped at the roadside near Kisii University. The police took the body to KTRH Mortuary for identification and further investigation.
The police appealed to any family whose son was missing to contact them or the Kisii Hospital Mortuary for assistance.
