- Parents of Limuru Girls’ School students have expressed concern over a midterm break scheduled just days after learners resumed classes.
- Some parents say the repeated travel arrangements are costly and disruptive to learning.
- The development has renewed debate over the impact of frequent school breaks on academic progress.
Parents of students at Limuru Girls’ School have expressed frustration and confusion after receiving a notice informing them that the school will close for the midterm break on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, barely four days after learners resumed classes.
According to a message sent to parents by the school administration, students are expected to leave for the midterm break from 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, with parents advised to make travel arrangements for their daughters.
The announcement has sparked debate among parents, many of whom had only recently returned their children to school following an extended period away from class.
Learners had reportedly stayed at home for more than two weeks after schools closed on June 6 before reporting back last Friday.
Several parents questioned the practicality of sending students home again after such a short period in school, arguing that the frequent interruptions could negatively affect learning and academic progress.
“Parents have barely recovered from the costs of transporting their children back to school, and now they are being asked to make the same arrangements again just days later,” said one concerned parent.
Concerns over learning time
Other parents wondered whether schools and education authorities were doing enough to maximize learning time, especially at a time when teachers are under pressure to cover the syllabus and prepare candidates for national examinations.
The situation has reignited discussions about the school calendar and the impact of repeated breaks on learners, parents and teachers.
Some parents have called on education stakeholders to review scheduling decisions to ensure that students spend adequate time in class.
School administrators had not publicly explained the reason behind the timing of the midterm break, although the break is understood to be part of the official academic calendar.
