More than 150 youths in Lamu County have graduated from the Huawei Digital Truck Program after completing intensive training in information and communication technology (ICT) and digital skills aimed at improving employability and expanding access to technology-based opportunities.
The graduation ceremony was held on Monday, May 11, at the Mokowe Command Center and brought together county officials, education stakeholders, and representatives from Huawei Kenya.
The training program, implemented through a partnership between the Lamu County Department of ICT and Huawei Kenya, focused on equipping young people with practical digital knowledge and hands-on ICT skills relevant to the modern job market.
Speaking during the event, Lamu Deputy Governor Dr Mbarak Bahjaj said the initiative had played a key role in empowering youths through digital education and exposure to emerging technologies.
He noted that digital literacy has become essential in today’s economy and urged the graduates to use the skills acquired to pursue innovation, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities within the growing digital space.
The Huawei Digital Truck Program, which operates as a mobile classroom, has enabled ICT training to reach youths in different parts of the county by offering accessible and practical lessons in technology and digital applications.
County officials also highlighted ongoing investments in digital learning infrastructure across Lamu to support youth training and technology adoption.

Graduates were further encouraged to explore opportunities in higher learning and specialised training, especially through the upcoming Lamu Maritime and Innovation College, which is expected to begin operations in July. The institution will offer courses linked to the maritime sector and blue economy to prepare local youths for emerging career opportunities.
