Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has issued a stern warning to school principals across the country who are violating the government’s fee-capping policy without approval from the ministry of education, saying such actions will attract disciplinary measures.

Speaking during the Kisii National Polytechnic 6th graduation ceremony amid growing public concern over rising school fees in schools, Ogamba emphasized that no school has authority to unilaterally revise fees beyond the approved guidelines.

He warned that principals found culpable of implementing unauthorized fee increments will face disciplinary action, including possible removal from office.

The cabinet secretary further revealed that the Ministry has already begun investigations into reports received from teachers, parents and other education stakeholders regarding schools allegedly breaching fee regulations.

He noted that the government is committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and affordability in the education sector.

“This ministry will not tolerate any institution that goes against the set fee structures. Any principal or Board of Management that defies these regulations will face the full force of disciplinary action,” he said.

His remarks come shortly after decisive action was taken against the Board of Management of Alliance Girls High School, which has been dissolved over alleged violations of fee guidelines.

The school’s principal Margaret Njeru is also set to face disciplinary proceedings in connection with the matter, signaling the government’s tough stance on compliance.

The ministry has also indicated that other institutions suspected of similar violations are under review, with more action expected in the coming weeks.

The members of the public have expressed anger over rising school fees, particularly in high-performing national schools, arguing that the increases are making education increasingly inaccessible to many families.

Ogamba reassured parents that the ministry remains committed to protecting learners and ensuring that education remains affordable.

He urged school administrators to strictly adhere to government directives and engage the Ministry before making any financial adjustments.

The government has maintained that adherence to the fee-capping policy is mandatory and part of broader efforts to regulate costs and promote equity in access to education.
