Jerusah Momanyi, Nyamira County Woman Representative

Nyamira County Woman Representative, Jerusha Momanyi, has called upon the authorities to apprehend a man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old schoolgirl.

Speaking from her office on Monday, she emphasized the critical role parents must play in protecting their children, underlining the need for greater vigilance.

Reportedly, the 40-year-old man allegedly defiled the young girl, who had been sent to a nearby kiosk to purchase soap where he lured her with sweets and subsequently violated her.

The girl’s mother, alarmed by her daughter’s unusual delay, initiated a search and was horrified to discover the man in a compromising position with her child.

The victim’s cries for help drew the attention of Getare villagers, who sought to apprehend the suspect, but he managed to escape.

The traumatized girl received medical attention at Manga Sub county Hospital, where she was examined and discharged.

The Ogango Sub location Assistant Chief, James Mokaya, confirmed the incident and promptly reported it to the police, ensuring that legal actions would be taken against the alleged perpetrator.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the residents of Bonyamadicho village in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency have earned praise for their swift actions in preventing the sale of a baby boy by his father.

Reportedly, the father, a 36-year-old man, left home for a leisure work with his child, leaving the mother at home.

Upon his return alone, a dispute erupted when his wife inquired about the child’s whereabouts leading to a physical altercation.

The distressed wife fled and sought assistance from Assistant Chief Mr. Evans Obamo of Rirumi Sub location, who promptly alerted the police.

“They initiated an investigation, which led to the discovery of the child approximately 20 kilometers from his home,” the wife stated.

Subsequently, they arrested a woman in possession of the child, who claimed to have purchased him for Ksh 15,000 from the child’s father.

Both suspects were detained at Masimba Sub county police station to aid in the ongoing investigation into the prevalent cases of kidnapping and child abuse in the area.
