  • Residents of Bogichora Ward in West Mugirango Constituency have decried slow ECDE development within the area, demanding equitable resource allocation.
  • They attributed the perceived slow pace of development to what they described as the underutilization of Deputy Governor Dr. James Gesami, arguing that his expertise in both health and education has not been fully harnessed by the county administration.

Residents of Bogichora Ward in West Mugirango Constituency have accused the Nyamira County Government of neglecting the area in the development of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) infrastructure, saying learners are missing out on a conducive learning environment.

Speaking during a public baraza on Sunday, the residents said Bogichora Ward has fallen behind other parts of the county in the construction of ECDE classrooms and other key development projects.

They attributed the perceived slow pace of development to what they described as the underutilization of Deputy Governor Dr. James Gesami, arguing that his expertise in both health and education has not been fully harnessed by the county administration.

“Dr. James Gesami’s expertise in health and education is being underutilized, and we urge the county leadership to rectify this situation,” said resident Charles Akombe.

The residents claimed that despite Dr. Gesami’s professional background, he has been assigned limited responsibilities, a situation they believe has contributed to uneven development across Nyamira County.

They pointed to Nyamira Primary School as an example of a beneficiary of significant county investment and urged Governor Amos Nyaribo to ensure similar development reaches schools in Bogichora Ward.

Beyond education, the residents also expressed concern over the poor state of roads in the area, saying inadequate infrastructure has hampered access to schools, markets and essential services for learners, teachers and farmers.

When contacted by Education News, Dr. Gesami declined to comment extensively, saying only that his role in serving the people was well defined.

Under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, the Deputy Governor deputizes the Governor and performs duties assigned by the Governor.

The office also coordinates county government functions, oversees the implementation of policies and projects, links the county executive with stakeholders and the public, and advises the Governor on governance matters.

The Deputy Governor also assumes the Governor’s responsibilities in the Governor’s absence and succeeds to the office should it become vacant.

The residents called on Governor Nyaribo to assign Dr. Gesami greater responsibilities, particularly in sectors where they believe his technical expertise would enhance service delivery and accelerate development.

They further appealed to the county government to ensure equitable distribution of resources across all wards, prioritizing the construction of ECDE classrooms, road improvements and other essential public services in underserved areas such as Bogichora Ward.
