As reported last evening by Education News, a tragic road accident along the Sagana-Makutano highway in Kirinyaga County claimed the life of a student and left 13 passengers injured.

The students were involved in an accident in the Riandira area along the Sagana-Makutano highway while reporting to school at 10:30am.

A parent who wished to remain unnamed stated that the school informed parents of the accident via WhatsApp, but the message came several hours late. Consequently, many rushed to two health facilities to collect their children and take them for treatment.

The school management held an emergency meeting to find a way forward.

KUPPET Secretary General for Kirinyaga County, Njogu Mbui, has asked drivers to be extra careful during this back-to-school period.

“It is very unfortunate that students got involved in an accident. Drivers, be extra careful,” said Mbui.

The accident has left the school management shaken and confused, as an opening exam was to be taken starting Monday afternoon.

The Sacco has also been caught off guard with minimal or no talks about the scary accident.

The public service vehicle they were in had a tyre burst, making the driver unable to control it. The car veered off the road, rolling several times before landing in a ditch.

The damaged vehicle was towed to the Sagana police station. At the same time, the dead student’s body was taken to the Kerugoya morgue awaiting postmortem.
