Thika Technical Training Institute (TTTI) is preparing for a leadership transition as its Chief Principal, Hannah Mburu, approaches retirement after years of service in the technical and vocational education sector.
Mburu has been at the helm of the institution, located along General Kago Road in Thika Town, Kiambu County, where it has continued to offer technical and vocational training aimed at equipping learners with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
During her tenure, the institute has embraced industry-based learning, leveraging Thika's industrial environment to expose trainees to real-world work experiences and help bridge the gap between classroom instruction and industry demands.
TTTI offers Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) programmes across several fields, including engineering, building and civil engineering, electrical engineering, agriculture and environmental studies, hospitality and liberal studies.
The institution's focus on practical training aligns with the growing emphasis on skills development in Kenya's TVET sector, where institutions are expected to produce graduates who can respond to labour market needs and emerging opportunities in business and industry.
Attention turns to appointment of new chief principal
Attention is now turning to the process of identifying Mburu's successor, with the institute's Board of Governors and the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training expected to communicate the next steps in the leadership transition.
The appointment of a successor is expected to follow the applicable legal and regulatory framework governing leadership appointments in public technical training institutions.
Meanwhile, the TTTI fraternity is preparing to honour Mburu in recognition of her service and contribution to technical training in Kiambu County.
Her impending retirement marks the close of a chapter in the institution's leadership as it prepares for its next phase under a new chief principal.
As the transition approaches, the institute is expected to build on its training programmes and industry links to continue preparing trainees for the demands of the workplace and entrepreneurship.
