Philanthropist Karanja Mburu Wamatangi has distributed lunch meals to 12,576 candidates sitting their national examinations in Kiharu constituency.
Wamatangi distributed the meals to 171 examination centres, including public and private schools, for registered candidates sitting the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Speaking at Ndikwe market, he said the food distribution programme is an initiative he started eight years ago.
“I am back to ensure that all the candidates in Kiharu will have meals prepared in their schools, a strategy to make their future better,” said Wamatangi.
He said he has supported schools with meals during examination periods over the last eight years, but this season he added private schools to his budget.
“This is one of the initiatives to improve the education standards, eyeing the future of the Kiharu children. I have also built many of the water tanks for the schools,” he said.
Wamatangi also made a passionate appeal to all leaders in Northern Kenya to construct schools that will accommodate students from the country.
“There is a need for all the leaders to allocate finances to facilitate the building of good schools to save the students being pushed to study in the Mt Kenya region,” said Wamatangi.
