Parents appeal for water at Nyabisase Comprehensive School in Kisii County

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro commissions three new classrooms and an administration block at Nyabisase Comprehensive School in Boikanga Ward, Kisii County, as parents appeal for improved water and electricity connections.
Residents of Boikanga Ward in South Mugirango, Kisii County, have appealed to the area National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) office to help provide water to Nyabisase Comprehensive School to prevent learners from walking long distances to fetch water at the expense of class lessons.
Speaking at the school during the commissioning of three new classrooms and an administration block, parents and local leaders said they were satisfied with the improved infrastructure but now needed water to complete the process of creating an enabling environment for learners.
The parents, led by John Moiruruki, said water and electricity were critical to the school because they add value to learning. He said learners currently lose valuable learning time trekking to distant water sources, a situation that also exposes them to risks, especially during the rainy season.
“The new classrooms have eased congestion, but without reliable water, sanitation remains a challenge,” Moiruruki said.
John Moiruruki, a parent at Nyabisase Comprehensive School in Boikanga Ward, Kisii County, appeals to the NG-CDF to provide reliable water and electricity connections to improve the learning environment for more than 300 learners.
He asked the NG-CDF to consider drilling a borehole or installing rainwater harvesting tanks and to fast-track electricity connection to support digital learning under Competency-Based Education (CBE).(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/parents-appeal-for-water-at-nyabisase-comprehensive-school-in-kisii-county)
MP urges parents to support children's education
In response, area MP Sylvanus Osoro, who commissioned the classrooms, asked parents to also play their parental roles by providing basic needs for their children.
“We as the government are doing our part by supporting infrastructure, you should also try to embrace your parental roles,” he said.
Osoro said his office had spent more than Sh80 million to support education projects in the area this year alone, including classrooms, laboratories and administration blocks across several schools in South Mugirango.
He promised to follow up with Kenya Power and Lighting Company to ensure electricity connectivity within the shortest time possible.
“I will launch electricity here within a period of three days from now. Thank you for supporting and encouraging me to stick with the government's agenda that has helped us to develop this area,” he said.
Improved road network to support local economy
The MP also announced that the Nyakeyo-Ekona-Yonduko-Nyamasege-Kiagware-Sengenya road would be completed by December, noting that it would connect South Mugirango to neighbouring Bomachoge Borabu and Bomachoge Chache constituencies and boost trade.
He urged residents to work hard on their farms and produce enough vegetables, bananas and sugarcane and use the improved road network to sell their produce at Etago, Ogembo, Kenyenya and Riosiri markets to earn money to support their children's education.
Area education stakeholders who attended the event said the provision of water would improve hygiene, support the school feeding programme and reduce absenteeism.
They thanked the NG-CDF for the investment and expressed optimism that the water request would be prioritised to fully realise a conducive learning environment for more than 300 learners enrolled at the school.
