The Vice Chancellor of Maasai Mara University, Prof Peninah Aloo-Obudho, yesterday led students, staff and the university fraternity in launching the Narok Town Greening Initiative.
The greening exercise is part of early activities ahead of this year's Mazingira Day celebrations, which will be marked nationally on October 10, 2026.
Speaking during the launch at Maasai Mara University, Prof Aloo-Obudho said the initiative aims to restore Narok's environment, beautify the town and inculcate a culture of environmental conservation among students and the community.
She called on residents, learning institutions and stakeholders in Narok to plant trees and take care of the environment, noting that the effects of climate change are already being felt in the county.
The university plans to plant hundreds of indigenous and exotic tree seedlings in Narok Town and its environs in the run-up to Mazingira Day.
