Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has stepped up monitoring of the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations after witnessing the opening of an examination container and distribution of examination materials in Kibra, Nairobi County.
Ogamba on Wednesday morning oversaw the opening of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) examination container at the Kibra Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner's Office before proceeding to State House Girls Senior School, where he assessed the administration of the ongoing examinations.

The visits form part of the government's efforts to strengthen supervision, ensure examination security and address challenges that could disrupt the national exercise.

Ogamba said the government, through the Ministries of Education, Interior and National Administration, and Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, was working with relevant agencies to guarantee the smooth administration of the examinations.
He also noted that measures had been put in place to accommodate candidates requiring medical attention, while security arrangements were being reinforced in areas facing security challenges.
The government's intervention comes as candidates continue with the written examination phase, which began on November 2, following the earlier administration of practical, oral and other low-candidature papers.
According to the KNEC timetable, candidates sitting examinations on Wednesday, November 4, are scheduled to undertake Chemistry Paper 2 (233/2) and General Science Paper 1 (237/1) during the morning session, which begins at 8:00 am.
In the afternoon, candidates will sit English Paper 3 (101/3), covering Creative Composition and Essays based on Set Texts, starting at 2:00 pm.
The 2026 KCSE examinations have attracted 1,048,355 candidates across more than 10,000 examination centres countrywide, making this year's candidature the highest recorded so far.
The examinations are expected to run until November 20, with the government maintaining heightened surveillance and coordination among examination officials and security agencies to safeguard the integrity of the national assessment.
