The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Kitale has suspended elections for the Turkana Branch of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) pending further orders, following an application challenging the branch's electoral process.
In orders issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, Lady Justice Maureen Onyango directed that the elections remain suspended until the matter is heard on October 26.
The case was filed by Pauline Lomorukai Locheria against the KNUT Secretary-General and Peter Everittus Longoi, among other respondents. The court certified the application as urgent and set it down for an inter partes hearing, where both sides will present their positions.

Justice Onyango directed the applicant to serve the respondents with the application immediately. The respondents have seven days to file their responses.

The orders were issued under case number ELRCPET/E014/2026. The court also warned that disobeying or failing to comply with its orders could attract penal consequences.
The elections will remain on hold until the court gives further directions.
