Narok’s Eor Ekule, Loita schools rocked by dormitory fires, no injuries reported

Eor Ekule Secondary School in Narok East Sub-County and Loita High School in Narok South Sub-County are the latest learning institutions in Narok County to be affected by dormitory fires, adding to growing concerns over a series of school fire incidents reported across the country.

The first incident occurred at Eor Ekule secondary school, where a fire broke out during evening preps, destroying a dormitory and causing significant property damage.

The Narok East security team responded swiftly and successfully contained the blaze before it could spread further.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Students were safely evacuated from the affected building as emergency responders and school administrators moved quickly to secure the area.

Speaking from the scene, Narok East police sub county commander Edwin Ogwari, confirmed that investigations had commenced and assured parents and the public that all learners were safe.

“Security teams remain on site conducting investigations and overseeing the welfare of students. We are committed to establishing the cause of the fire while ensuring the safety of all learners,” he said.

Hours later, another fire broke out at Loita High School in Narok South sub-county at approximately 8:57 p.m. during evening prep studies.

The blaze completely destroyed the school’s Loita dormitory, leaving students displaced but unharmed.

Security officers and school administrators managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other buildings within the institution.

No casualties were reported.

The two incidents have renewed concerns over safety in boarding schools, with education stakeholders calling for enhanced fire prevention measures and stricter safety protocols in learning institutions.

Authorities have launched investigations into both incidents, with the causes of the fires yet to be established.
