Cherobon Mixed Day Senior School in Nandi County held a colourful celebration to mark its performance in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), bringing together students, teachers, parents and education stakeholders.

The event was graced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and attended by Tinderet Member of Parliament (MP) Julius Melly, alongside local administrators, education officials and members of the community.

The ceremony offered an opportunity for the school to reflect on its performance and recognise the efforts of candidates who sat for the national examinations. Several former students were awarded prizes and gifts in honour of their academic achievements; in a move school leaders said was meant to motivate current learners.

Speaking during the event, Koskei reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, describing it as central to national development.

“Education remains a cornerstone in the country’s development agenda, and sustained investment in schools is key to producing a skilled and competent workforce,” he said.

He added that education should go beyond preparing learners for employment and instead equip them with skills to become innovators and job creators.

“Education should not only prepare learners for employment but also mould them into job creators who can drive innovation and economic growth,” Koskei noted.

He assured stakeholders that the government will continue to support schools through improved infrastructure, enhanced learning resources and teacher empowerment.

Koskei also challenged students to remain disciplined and focused, urging them to take full advantage of educational opportunities to shape their future.

On his part, MP Melly emphasized the importance of collaboration among all players in the education sector.

“The success of learners depends on a collective effort involving teachers, education officials, parents and the wider community,” he said.

He called on parents to take a more active role in guiding their children, noting that support at home is critical in reinforcing classroom learning.

Melly also urged teachers to continue mentoring students with dedication, describing them as key to nurturing responsible and productive citizens.

School management and teachers expressed appreciation for the support received from both the national government and local leadership, noting that the improved KCSE results were a product of teamwork and commitment from all stakeholders.

Parents and community members welcomed the recognition of the candidates, expressing optimism that continued cooperation will further enhance the school’s performance.

The thanksgiving ceremony featured prayers, speeches and student presentations, creating an atmosphere of celebration and reflection. Beyond marking academic success, the event served as a renewed call for unity and collaboration in advancing education standards in the region.
