Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in Bomet County, urging residents to report offenders to the police instead of settling such cases privately.
Speaking during the G20 Economic Empowerment Programme at Itembe in Nyangores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency, Murkomen said cases of rape and defilement were worrying and called on families and community leaders to support efforts aimed at protecting women and children.
CS warns against private settlements
The CS warned against the practice of resolving sexual offence cases through out-of-court agreements, saying such arrangements deny victims justice and allow perpetrators to escape punishment.
He said anyone found committing rape, defilement or other forms of gender-based violence should face the full force of the law, adding that security agencies are committed to ensuring offenders are arrested and prosecuted.
Murkomen urged victims and members of the public to report incidents immediately to the National Police Service and other relevant authorities to enable swift investigations and legal action.

He also appealed to parents, religious leaders and local administrators to work together in creating awareness of the dangers of gender-based violence and the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society.
The Interior CS said the government remains committed to strengthening law enforcement and ensuring that every victim of gender-based violence receives justice, while emphasizing that no individual should take the law into their own hands or shield offenders from prosecution.
