MP sets aside Shs10m kitty for TVET scholarships

Shs 10 million from National –Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has been launched as scholarships for youth joining Kapchepkor Technical Training College in Baringo North Constituency.

Speaking during the official issuance of the dummy cheque at the institution, area Member of Parliament, Joseph Makilap, said the scholarships kitty was a gateway for youth from the area to access technical education to gain skills.

Makilap said he is fearing the declining admissions to technical institutions would reduce expertise in the area and promised to spearhead campaigns to enroll youth in order to breach the gap.

He said his office is planning to mobilize youth through chiefs’ offices within the constituency to enroll youth in technical colleges to grasp opportunities in the sector.

‘‘This is the only chance where you can utilize to settle unemployment burden and earn lifetime skills. I urge youth to heed the call, for my office is fully able to assist the abandoned technical education,’’ the MP pleaded with he youth.

He challenged parents to invest in education of their children for it was surest way of ensuring that the society has a dependable generation.

Through his intense lobby, he said, construction of ultra modern hostel at the institution to mitigate inadequate housing for the students had already been facilitated.

‘‘I want a future where the community will easily access a professional carpenter, electrician, plumber mason or a landscaper,’’ the MP told the parents.

He hinted the possibility of Kapchepkor Vocational Training College being upgraded to a National Polytechnic or a University in the future if the leadership and professionals provide unequivocal support.

Saimo Kipsaraman Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mr. John Aengwo and his counterpart Simon Kiplagat from Kabartonjo Ward lauded efforts of the MP and assured full support by enacting laws at the assembly to allocate enough funding to technical colleges.

“We have yearned for a community where youth, who are the majority are self l-employed and the gesture from our MP is a clear testimony that he has youth’s interests at heart,’’ the duo said.
