MP Kipsanai: Sh22 million for TVET students, new classrooms, and university coming to Keiyo North

Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai addresses education stakeholders during a forum on scholarships, school infrastructure and technical training initiatives in the constituency.

Keiyo North Member of Parliament Adams Kipsanai has intensified efforts to improve education in the constituency.

The MP is doing so through scholarship programmes, infrastructure development and expansion of technical training opportunities.

Since 2025, the legislator has rolled out a series of initiatives aimed at increasing access to education, supporting needy students and improving learning institutions across the constituency.

Among the flagship programmes is a partnership between the KCB Foundation and the Keiyo North National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), which has provided a scholarship fund worth Sh22 million.

The programme has so far benefited more than 500 students studying at Kipsoen Technical and Vocational College (TVC), many of whom come from vulnerable backgrounds.

Speaking during an education stakeholders’ forum in the constituency, Kipsanai said the scholarship initiative was intended to ease the financial burden on families and allow learners to focus on their studies.

“The bursaries and scholarships have played a major role in reducing the burden of education. Many students from needy families can now continue with their studies without constant interruptions caused by a lack of fees,” said Kipsanai.

He noted that access to education remains one of the key pillars of his development agenda, adding that no student should be denied an opportunity to learn because of poverty.

According to the MP, the constituency leadership has prioritised investment in education infrastructure through the NG-CDF to create a more conducive learning environment for students.

Several schools across the constituency have benefited from classroom construction, renovation of facilities, provision of learning materials and improvement of sanitation infrastructure.

Kipsanai said improving the physical learning environment was critical in enhancing academic performance and learner motivation.

“We are investing heavily in infrastructure because learners and teachers deserve a conducive environment. Education is the foundation of development, and we must continue strengthening our institutions,” he said.

A major focus of the MP’s education agenda has been the advancement of Kipsoen Technical and Vocational College into a centre of excellence in mechatronics and technical training.

The lawmaker said strengthening technical institutions would equip young people with practical skills needed in the modern job market and reduce unemployment among the youth.

“We want our young people to acquire skills that can help them become self-reliant. Technical training is the future because industries today require competent and skilled manpower,” he added.

Education stakeholders in the area have welcomed the investment in technical education, saying it will help bridge the skills gap and open up employment opportunities for local youth.

Kipsanai has also been at the centre of efforts to elevate higher education opportunities in the constituency through the proposed conversion of Tambach Teachers Training College into a fully-fledged university.

The proposal has generated debate among some stakeholders, but the MP has consistently defended the initiative, arguing that the upgrade would expand access to university education for students from the region.

“We should support the transformation of Tambach into a university because it will open doors for our children and also spur economic growth in the region,” he said during a recent public engagement meeting.

He urged local leaders, education stakeholders and residents to rally behind the plan, saying the institution has the potential to become a major centre of higher learning in the North Rift region.

At the same time, the legislator has continued to advocate for sustained financial support for students through bursary programmes.

Kipsanai has opposed proposals seeking to completely abolish bursary systems, arguing that many vulnerable learners still depend on such support to remain in school.

“If bursaries are removed completely, many needy students will suffer. We must ensure some systems directly support vulnerable learners so that no child drops out because of financial difficulties,” he stated.

Parents and local leaders have praised the MP’s education initiatives, noting that many students who were previously unable to continue with their studies are now benefiting from scholarships and bursaries.

Some residents said the improvements in schools and technical institutions were already beginning to positively impact education standards in the constituency.

As the country continues implementing reforms in the education sector, Kipsanai has expressed confidence that the investments being made in Keiyo North will position the constituency as a regional education hub.

The MP maintained that education and infrastructure development would remain at the centre of his agenda as the constituency prepares for the next electoral cycle.
