Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo has assured parents that all 12,700 students who applied for bursaries will receive funding, addressing concerns over delays in disbursement.
Speaking at a funeral in the area, the MP addressed criticism over delays in processing education bursary funds, assuring residents that all 12,700 applicants, including university students, would receive their cheques the following day at Keberesi Primary School.
“I understand the struggles our students face, and I’m committed to ensuring they get the support they need,” he said. “Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and we’ll do our best to support our bright students.”
The MP also expressed regret over the death of Charity Nyaboke, 29, who died with her unborn child at Kenyenya Health Centre, attributing it to negligence by nurses. He promised to follow up on the matter with the Kisii County government and parliament.
“Maternity care is critical, not just for the mother, but for the future health and well-being of our learners,” he emphasised. “A healthy start in life sets the stage for future success. We must prioritise healthcare, especially in rural areas, to prevent such tragedies.”
MP promise on health
The MP cited another recent maternal death at Magena Health Centre, highlighting the need for improved healthcare services in the subcounty.
“We need to ensure our health facilities are equipped to handle emergencies and provide quality care to our mothers and children,” he said.

The lawmaker thanked Kenyenya Subcounty Deputy County Commissioner William Bet and his security team for pacifying the residents who stormed Kenyenya Health Centre and vandalised it in revenge for the death of Charity Nyaboke, which resulted in the temporary closure of the facility. He asked the residents not to take the law into their own hands, but to leave it to take its own course.
