Bobasi Member of Parliament Innocent Obiri has exonerated himself from blame over the disbursement of Education Bursary Fund cheques from his NG-CDF office.

Speaking in Bobasi on Friday, Obiri said his office had followed all the laid down procedures in vetting and awarding bursaries to needy students across the constituency. He stated that any delays or complaints regarding cheque issuance were not caused by his office, noting that the NG-CDF committee operates independently and in accordance with the law.

“My office does not handle cash. We only process applications, vet them through the committee, and release cheques to the beneficiaries and their schools. If there are issues, they should be addressed through the proper channels,” he said.

The MP was responding to a recent ultimatum issued by area students from the University of Nairobi who threatened to storm his office within a week to demand justice unless the funds were released.

Obiri asked the youth to embrace patience, tolerance, and resilience as the best virtues in life. He urged parents and students to remain calm and avoid politicising the bursary process. He added that his office remains committed to transparency and will continue supporting education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

He further asked residents to report any cases of fraud or impersonation to the authorities, warning that individuals soliciting money in exchange for bursary allocation would be prosecuted.

The MP confirmed that the NG-CDF had already disbursed funds for the current term and would open the next round of applications as scheduled. To those doubting his office, he told them to report to his constituency office on Monday, April 13, to collect the cheques for their education support in different universities.
