- Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek has directed police to arrest a quarry owner, parents and learners found working instead of attending school.
- The directive follows reports that 36 learners from Lombogishu Comprehensive School were absent, with most suspected to have gone to work at the quarry.
- The MP has also ordered education officials and local administrators to ensure all affected learners return to school.
Mogotio Member of Parliament Reuben Kiborek has directed police to arrest the owner of Lombogishu Quarry, parents and learners found working at the site instead of attending school.
The directive came after Lombogishu Comprehensive School confirmed that 36 learners were absent, with most suspected to have gone to work at the quarry.
Speaking to parents and school officials, MP Kiborek said it was “unacceptable” that children were being used for manual labour while their peers were in class.
“Education is the only equalizer we have. We cannot allow our children to crush stones today and lose their future tomorrow,” Kiborek said.
He instructed security agencies to move in immediately and arrest the quarry owner for employing school-going children, parents who allowed their children to skip school for work, and the learners involved, who will be processed and returned to school.
Child labour in quarries has been a recurring concern in Baringo and other counties, with poverty and school fees cited as the main drivers.
Children working in quarries often face health risks, including respiratory problems and injuries.
The MP urged parents to prioritise education and called on the county government and relevant agencies to ensure compliance with the 100 per cent transition policy.

Education officials, chiefs and their assistants have been directed to follow up and ensure all 36 learners resume classes.
