MoE validates information on students who appealed their funding groupings

PS for Higher Education Beatrice Inyangala. A validation of students' details has been carried out to verify information regarding their qualification for bands they had envisaged to fund their higher education.

The Ministry of Education last weekend carried out a validation process for those students who had appealed for review of their categorization into various bands in the new higher education funding model.

In a letter dated August 23, Higher Education Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Beatrice Muganda Inyangala instructed all county and sub-county Directors of Education to ensure they carry out validation for the lists they were sent in their various jurisdictions and submit it to Universities Fund Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Monari and the Director of Secondary Education.

“A list for your county has been prepared for you to liaise with the National Government Administrative Officers to validate the data against each applicant over this weekend between (August, 24 to 26, 2024),” reads the letter.

“The completed form should be scanned and emailed to: geoffreymonari@ufb.go.ke and copied to: directorsecondary@education.go.ke.”

The letter was also copied to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, PS for Internal Security and National Administration Dr Raymond Omollo, Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang, and all Regional Directors of Education.

This comes at a time the president has suggested a review of students after complaints arose about the banding they they were placed. Currently, university students are gearing up for a strike in September to protest the unfairness they have seen in the funding model.
