- MMUST first-year students have been urged to look beyond academic excellence and embrace innovation, research and practical skills development.
- Directors from the Division of Planning, Research and Innovation have introduced freshers to available programmes and platforms during the orientation exercise.
- The orientation has aimed to help new students settle into university life while preparing them for both academic and co-curricular success.
First-year students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) have been challenged to look beyond academic excellence and embrace innovation, research and skills development as they begin their university journey.
The call was made by Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Planning, Research and Innovation, Prof. Christopher Ngacho, during the First-Year Orientation Programme at the university. Prof. Ngacho urged the new students to take advantage of the opportunities available at MMUST, emphasising that university education extends beyond lectures, examinations and academic qualifications.
He encouraged the students to focus on personal development, acquire practical skills and actively participate in university activities that can enhance their talents and prepare them for the job market. The Deputy Vice Chancellor further challenged the students to develop a culture of research and innovative thinking, noting that MMUST was committed to producing knowledge creators, problem-solvers and transformative leaders capable of addressing challenges facing society.

The first-year students were also taken through the mandates and programmes of various directorates under the Division of Planning, Research and Innovation, with directors highlighting opportunities available to students in research, innovation and development and urging the freshers to make use of the programmes and platforms provided by the university.

The orientation programme is aimed at helping new students settle into university life while equipping them with the information and skills necessary to make the most of their academic and co-curricular experience at MMUST.
