The education fraternity is mourning the death of Professor Daniel Dondi of Maseno University, who was allegedly killed by attackers at the gate of his home in Olima, Kokwanyo East, Rachuonyo East Sub-County, in what is suspected to be a land dispute.
The incident, which occurred at his rural home, has left his wife, Joyce Ochola, a teacher at Kamolo Comprehensive School, widowed.
It is alleged that the attackers ambushed the professor at the entrance to his home before fatally assaulting him.
Professor Dondi was widely respected as a distinguished scholar, researcher and mentor whose contribution to higher education earned him admiration within and beyond Maseno University.
The killing has shocked the academic community and residents of Rachuonyo East, with leaders calling for thorough investigations into the incident.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring those responsible to justice.
