The Ogembo Law Courts Resident Magistrate Mrs. Calisters Sindani has released a middle-aged man on bond after he denied defiling a mentally disabled girl.
Robert Nyanchoka Lukas denied the two crime counts against him claiming he invaded the home of the complainant Oon March 29 and defiled the girl.
The relatives of the victim accused the suspect of raping the complainant contrary to Section 3 and 8 of the 2006 penal code.
The accused was released on a Ksh 50,000 bond pending the mentioning of the case on May 24 and subsequent hearing on July 29.
According to the 2006 Sexual Offence Act, if a suspect is proved guilty of defiling a minor, he will be sentenced to imprisonment for a maximum of 25 years and a minimum of 15 years.
Following the incident, Ogembo residents have decried the high rate of sexual-related offences in the region.
They attributed them to the rampant use of illicit drugs and alcoholism.
They appealed to the Internal Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithute Kindiki to take stern actions against Chiefs and their assistants who condoned the use and sale of drugs in their jurisdictions.
