Makueni Chief Officer for Education pledges county support to strengthen learners’ literacy

The Makueni County Chief Officer for ICT, Education and Internship, Irene Makau, has affirmed the county’s commitment to strengthening the education sector to boost learners’ literacy levels.

Speaking at Kinyambu and Kithyasu libraries in the company of other county officials, Makau said the county will continue investing in library programmes and infrastructure to boost learning.

The county official was attending the National Library Week, an event themed ‘Read with Us and Discover Joy’ aimed at boosting literacy and highlighting libraries as key learning hubs.

The event, which runs from April 19–25, 2026, highlights the essential role of libraries and features community outreach such as National Bookmobile Day in efforts to make reading accessible everywhere.

It encourages visiting libraries for events and digital services and supports local library staff.
