Magoha hits out at Principals sending students home over arrears

By Education News Reporter

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has hit out at principals sending away students over school fees arrears.

Speaking at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret, Prof. Magoha said it was unfortunate that principals were punishing children by sending them back home for fees balances despite the harsh economic times.

Prof. Magoha cited Gathika Girls High school’s Principal who sent home hundreds of students.

The CS said the Principal should have convened a PTA meeting as a way to reach out to parents before sending the students home.

He then directed them and related parties to ensure that the children are brought back to school as soon as possible.

However, the CS urged parents to at least make efforts to pay the school fees or rather communicate to principals if not in a position to do so.

On construction of CBC classrooms, Magoha said that over 90% of the classrooms were complete across the country, with the Central region having completed construction as Rift Valley region nears completion.
