Machakos County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Dr. Consolata Mutisya has asked parents to ensure their three-year-old kids join schools without delay to enable them cope with the demands of the new Competency Based Education (CBE).

Dr. Mutisya said the curriculum is demanding and required a firm early foundation for learners to grasp the concepts.

Speaking at Miu Catholic Church in Kangundo Sub-county where she led a Public Participation exercise for the 2023-2027 County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) Mid-Term Review, Dr. Mutisya urged parents to enroll their children in County government-run Early Childhood Development Centers which were free in case they faced challenges paying school fees at private institutions.

“Do not stay at home with your three-year-old kids. Take them to school where they will begin their playgroup activities before proceeding to grade one. The new CBE is demanding and your child will not cope properly if they join late,” said Dr. Mutisya.

She added that there were many dangers which could befall a child who stayed at home rather than in a safe ECDE center.

Similar sentiments were separately voiced by Chief Officer in the Office of the Governor Charles Mutinda who spoke in Mwala during Public Participation in the Sub-county.

Mutinda said the County government was offering bursaries to needy learners and urged parents not to shy away from approaching the government for assistance.

Mutinda emphasized that education was the only lifelong investment that parents could offer to their offsprings.

“Approach the office of the Sub-county Administrator for assistance if you are in need of bursaries. Education is the only sure lifelong investment that you can bequeath your child,” said Mutinda.

Public Participation on the CIDP was carried out in all the nine sub-counties including Masinga, Yatta, Matungulu, Kathiani,Machakos Town, Mavoko, and Kalama where residents turned up to give their views on the development of the County.
