Maasai Mara University is mourning the death of its Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Outreach, Professor Francis Mburu, who passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, following a short illness.
The university announced the death with profound sorrow, describing Professor Mburu’s passing as a major loss to the institution, the wider academic community and the many people whose lives and careers were touched by his service.
Professor Mburu served in a senior leadership position at the university, where he played a key role in advancing its research, innovation and outreach agenda.
In his capacity as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Outreach, he was credited with strengthening research activities, fostering innovation, building partnerships and promoting community engagement.
The university said his contribution to its growth and development had left an enduring legacy, with his distinguished service standing as a testament to a life dedicated to academia and public service.

“His untimely demise is a great loss not only to the University but also to the academic community, the profession, and the many people whose lives and careers were touched by his services,” the university said in a message signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aloo-Obudho.
The institution said it would continue to stand with Professor Mburu’s family as they come to terms with the loss.
The university leadership extended its condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, students and friends of the late professor, urging the university community to remember and celebrate his life while honouring the legacy he leaves behind.
