Learners at Riangabi Primary and Junior Secondary School, Riangabi Polytechnic and Kerera Primary School in Nyaribari Chache constituency have been forced to stay at home following the collapse of Gesinga bridge which was their only route to school.
The learners are at times forced to wade through the waters as the younger ones crawl on sharp stones in a bid to quest their thirst for education.
The bridge recently collapsed and was swept away by River Chirichiro after the heavy rains in the area.
Education stakeholders have called for urgent intervention by both the national and county governments before the situation worsens and children drown.
They further lamented that the bridge has been under construction for the last two years and is yet to fully benefit the learners.
