The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as reigning national and East Africa girls’ volleyball champions Kwanthanze Girls renew their fierce rivalry with Rift Valley champions Kesogon Mixed School in the semi-finals of the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two National Games at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika, Kiambu County, tomorrow.
The much-anticipated clash pits two of Kenya’s most successful school volleyball teams against each other in what is expected to be one of the tournament’s biggest attractions.
Kwanthanze have dominated recent meetings between the two sides, defeating Kesogon twice in previous national finals.
However, Kesogon also boast a victory over their rivals and will be determined to settle scores and end Kwanthanze’s reign.
Defending champions bounce back
Kesogon head into the semi-finals in impressive form after maintaining a perfect record in the group stage, winning all their preliminary matches to top their pool.
Kwanthanze, meanwhile, recovered strongly after suffering a surprise opening-day defeat to tournament debutants Mwitoti Secondary School from the Western Region.
The defending champions bounced back with victories in their remaining two group matches to secure another place in the last four.
The second girls’ semi-final will see the impressive Mwitoti side take on Nairobi Region champions Soweto Academy. Mwitoti have emerged as one of the surprise packages of the competition after announcing their arrival on the national stage with a stunning victory over Kwanthanze before sealing qualification for the knockout stage.
Boys’ title race wide open
In the boys’ competition, Rift Valley champions Chepsaita Secondary School will battle Eastern Region representatives Matiliku Secondary School for a place in the final.
The other semi-final will feature Nyanza champions Masare School against Western Region’s Chesamisi High School.
Chesamisi earned their place at the national championships after former national champions Malava High School were disqualified and have taken full advantage of the opportunity with an impressive run to the semi-finals.
A new national boys’ champion is guaranteed this year after defending champions Cheptil Boys High School failed to qualify for the national games. The Rift Valley giants were eliminated during the regional championships held in Narok, bringing their title defence to an early end.

With traditional powerhouses facing ambitious newcomers, the race for both the boys’ and girls’ national volleyball titles is wide open as the tournament enters its decisive stage.
