The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET)Nakuru branch has welcomed the appointment of John Lekakeny Ololtuaa as Principal Secretary in the State Department for Basic Education, expressing confidence in his ability to steer reforms in the education sector.

KUPPET Nakuru Executive Secretary Duncan Macharia praised the government’s decision, describing Oloituaa as a seasoned educationist with a deep understanding of the country’s education system and the challenges facing the sector.

Macharia said the new Principal Secretary is well-positioned to spearhead positive changes and should leverage his experience to foster inclusive decision-making involving key stakeholders in the education sector, including the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), teachers’ unions, parents, and education officers.

Speaking to Education News, Macharia noted that the current challenges facing schools require collaborative leadership capable of bringing together all stakeholders to restore confidence and stability in the education system.

He emphasized that meaningful public participation and cooperation among education stakeholders are essential in addressing issues affecting schools across the country.

“Cooperation and public participation are key to addressing the challenges faced by schools in the country. As a union, we have confidence in the newly appointed Principal Secretary for Basic Education, John Oloituaa, to unite all stakeholders, strengthen the education system, and assure teachers and parents that learners are safe in our schools,” said Macharia.

He further stressed that learners deserve a conducive environment that promotes discipline, academic excellence, and personal development.

“Our children are our sons and daughters, and they deserve to be nurtured in schools that uphold high standards of discipline and learning so that they can achieve good grades and secure a better future,” he added.

Macharia expressed optimism that Oloituaa’s leadership would help strengthen collaboration among education stakeholders and contribute to improving the quality of education in the country.
